My hand moves to my chest before my brain catches up. There's a bandage and a thick gauze surgical tape stretching from my collarbone to below my breast, and underneath it is a heartbeat. Not the weak, wet flutter I was born with that gave out when I was nineteen, and not the mechanical click-whir of the LVAD that kept me alive for eight months like a wind-up toy running out of spring. This one is real with muscle, valve and blood pushing through chambers with a force that feels almost angry, like the heart is furious about something I haven't figured out yet.

I nodded my head again as my words didn't come out of my mouth. King Zeus then left my bedroom. I closed the door and locked it. I placed my hands on my chest. My heart was beating wildly inside my rib cage. It had been a long time since I last felt my heart beating swiftly. It was the first time when my heart was going all crazy. Unlike vampires, Draculas had a beating heart, pumping fresh blood in their veins and breathing patterns like humans.

It'll need surgery immediately after birth if the baby is going to survive. The other two are healthy, but small. That's normal for triplets. It's a miracle, in my opinion, that you made it this far, Princess Maeve." I fought to form my mouth into a smile, but it was impossible. "Is the hospital in Mirage even intact?" Troy asked Dad, his words full of panic.

He told me he's a Guardian of the Chambers. He assisted me and let me sat in my bed. I leaned on the headboard and he sat across me. Thinking back, I shouldn't have let him sat on my precious bed. How dare he?! He cleared his throat and started explaining. "Our hearts are made of four chambers. We all know its functions, but there's something deeper than that." Since I'm curious in nature, he piqued my interest though my initial plan was to never pay attention to him at all.

Chapter 4 Three days It had been three days since the accident. Elara sat in the hospital reception, her eyes hollow from exhaustion. She had been there for two days straight. She had cried more than she thought was possible; her tears had run dry, leaving only a beating heart and a numb mind behind.

She then looked towards her chest, particularly towards her racing heart. “And you, silly organ! Your main function is to pump blood and to move oxygenated blood through the body and receive deoxygenated blood and pump it to the lungs. That’s it! Stop interfering in my other emotional businesses. For god’s sake, just pump the damn blood!” She shouted in annoyance.

He replied trying to hide his delight. As they exited, they were met with a throng of reporters and flashing cameras. Sophia’s heart pounded, memories of a traumatic night flooding back. She remembered the blinding lights of the ambulance, the piercing sounds of sirens, and the chaos that followed the accident of that fateful day.The reporters’ shouts and camera flashes mirrored that horrific night, making her feel dizzy and lightheaded.
