Zarha's POV “I’m going to have a quick shower. I’ll be back in a sec,” Xander says before stepping into the bathroom. Max comes over and sits down beside me. “How are you feeling today?” he asks, his body turned towards me, his eyes scanning my face and body as if checking for injuries. “Good. No aches or pains or anything.” His answering smile is so bright, and then he closes his eyes as if in prayer before opening them again and letting out a breath. “Good.”

I only want to save my son. Xara suddenly felt incredibly light after saying all that. The pressure that had enveloped her dissipated like wisps of smoke. Steffan pushed a tablet toward Xara. "These are Jacob's medical records and examination reports." She took the tablet and sat down on the sofa. The tablet was not locked with a password. As she opened it, she began to read Jacob's medical history and reports. Although Xara was a psychologist, she was not entirely ignorant about other medical disciplines. She diligently reviewed all the information and then slumped her shoulders.

“Jesus. Your cheek… your lip… your hand—” He looked at my right hand—swollen, knuckles split, purple bruises already blooming across the back. He cursed under his breath, something low and vicious in French. “I’m taking you to the hospital. Right now.” I shook my head weakly. “No… no police… no reports…” He cupped my uninjured cheek, thumb brushing away a tear I hadn’t realized was falling. “No reports,” he promised. “Private clinic. Discreet. But you need stitches, X-rays. You’re hurt, sweetheart. Badly.”

I asked X before I could stop myself. “I don’t think you are ready for the answer to that yet,” X answered, his voice sounding very sad. “I’m glad you are here, and I’m with you,” I said softly. “I know Rei. I love you too,” X said an immense sadness in his voice. I’d never stopped to consider, really consider, how my relationship with Xavier affected X. I never thought X was real and yet… how could I deny that he was now? My brain hurt trying to make sense of this.

VIOLET// As soon as the music ended, I walked away from the music floor, moving towards the bar area where I saw Maxiano sitting and having a drink, who also seemed to be extremely happy. "Gorgeous, you seem angry. What's the matter?" he said to me as soon as I got to where he was, as he threw his arm around my shoulder. "It's nothing, Maxiano." I said to him. "How's your lovely mother now? Did her surgery go well? Heard from the doctor or the hospital yet?" he asked me as he took a deep gulp of his drink.

Then spun around to find Xavier standing by the doorway looking far too amused for someone who nearly sent me into cardiac arrest. “Oh my God, what is wrong with you people??” I snapped, clutching my chest dramatically. “Do all mafia men enjoy moving around like haunted spirits?” One of the guards finally lost the battle and burst out laughing. Traitor. Xavier’s lips twitched slightly as his eyes moved toward Miquel. “What happened?” he asked calmly. “Miquel happened,” I complained immediately. “Do you know this man has been reporting everything I do to you? EVERYTHING. At this point, I’m surprised he hasn’t informed you how many times I breathe per minute.”

I’ve become so fond of his company in these last few days that even his scent brought me comfort. I’m about halfway through the movie when Darren walks in. He looks disappointed to see Maverick by my side. “I have your results. Are you comfortable if I share them when you while he’s here?” He was referring to Maverick. I nod yes slowly as I realize this moment may be monumental in terms of my life expectancy. I wait for him to continue - feeling a pit grow in my stomach. “Well the good news is your imaging for your stomach showed no ulcers or abscesses. It doesn’t indicate any issues in your internal organs.” He shows me the imaging on his tablet and it looks normal from what I can tell.

Liam corrected, with the precision of someone who’d had hours to process the implications. He looked at her with those gold eyes that were, this morning, sharper than they’d ever been. “Mom,” he said. “I think you need to talk to Xavier.” Xavier’s reaction to Nora’s medical report was contained, visible only in the long exhale he allowed himself when Nora finished explaining. He stood in the medical wing, processing, and then turned to Aria. “He’s healthy,” Xavier said, like he needed to say it aloud to confirm it. “Completely,” Nora said.

"Answer me." "This autopsy report is months old. How could I possibly remember every detail from months ago? Besides, if there were any issues with the body, I would have included them in the report. If it's not mentioned, it means nothing was there. What I'm more curious about is where you got this report. Do you realize this is illegal?" Dr. Xavier replied angrily. Melvin had no patience for his deflections. "If I'm breaking the law, someone will come arrest me. But you're about to be finished."

Grace We walked to the door. He flipped through the report he’d grabbed and showed it to me. “This is the report from the last month. As far as I can tell, it’s the earliest one with the kind of changes that could be detrimental to Wolfe Medical’s reputation.” I blinked. “How could you know that? You’ve only looked at a few reports.” He chuckled. “I looked at every report on your desk, monthly and quarterly while I put them all in the right order.”
