THE SUBSTITUTE LUNA

THE SUBSTITUTE LUNA

Cassandra Mtogether for years, but he didn't know my real identity
She swiftly turned around and ran away from me, not bothering to pick up the herbs that she had dropped earlier, while I remained standing there, trying to replay the memory of what I had seen in her eyes. Her eyes shifted into something dark – totally black with a slit in the middle. A slit that was like an opening to another portal — and it was colored green. Her eyes stood out vividly in my memory. And first, I thought it was her wolf, until I remembered I had seen those eyes somewhere.

It was beautiful but eerie, a colour I’d never seen on myself before. I tried to calm my racing heart, took a few steady breaths, and watched as the green glow dimmed, fading into a deep, forest-green hue that seemed somehow… natural yet unfamiliar. I couldn’t look away, captivated by the sight, but a strange unease settled over me. I searched my memories, trying to recall if either of my parents had green eyes. But no, neither of them did. This colour, this strange flickering, felt like a mystery locked deep within me, something I’d never noticed or known until now.

He had let it slip one or two times about the matter, but I never let it develop into something more than his suggestive phrases. “Though I must admit, don’t you think the girl is a bit unusual despite her beauty?” “Unusual how?” “Her eyes," he said thoughtfully, like he was trying to solve a puzzle. “Dual eye colours are rare among our kind. I don’t think they’ve been recorded for a long time. In the old stories, they were either seen as a mark of strange powers," he paused, his finger on his jaw, "or a curse, depending on who you ask."

I wasn’t sure what was happening but my hold on his neck softened a bit and he leaned in closer, opening his eyes. “Are your eyes real?” I blurted. I have always wondered about his eyes when I first saw him. I have seen all kinds of humans eye colors—blue, green, hazel, amber—I’d seen them countless times. But his… no. His were something else…..light Purple or Indigo swirling like smoke caught in sunlight. Something impossible, unearthly, almost wrong in the most exquisite way. Something that looks awfully familiar but I couldn’t place it. “Yes,” he whispered.

“At night, her power rises. Sometimes she even glows.” “Glow?” “It’s a bronze hue that forms all over her body, even her clothes. Sometimes she opens her eyes. And they’re. . .it’s hard to describe. They’re like kaleidoscopes.” “Kaleidoscope eyes?” Maddox sounded skeptical. “And you didn’t eat those mushrooms you found in the forest a few days ago?” “No.” “Hmmm. Go ahead. I’ll study this paper and see if there is something here. We’ve woken my mate. She is about to come out.”

The Silver Wolf

The darkness of the night provided the perfect cover for my secret practice sessions, allowing me to focus solely on honing my skills without any distractions. One night, as I was training, I suddenly felt someone staring at me from the shadow of the darkness, alerting me to an incoming danger. My heart raced as I turned to face the source of the gaze, only to find a pair of glowing eyes peering back at me. Eyes that were so unusual that I had never seen before. The eyes seemed to emit an otherworldly glow, captivating and mysterious. They held a certain intensity that sent shivers down my spine, hinting at a power beyond my comprehension.

he thundered. “There are no maidens with us,” said Hayden, “Let us through.” “You are mistaken, Alpha Prince,” bellowed Largo, “There is but one and she must be handed over. I can smell her tresses and hear her heartbeat.” Largo, still straddling the road, took a step forward and another. His footsteps made the ground quake and the forest behind him trembled. Several birds took flight, escaping the trembling trees. The Moko Jumbie bent his knees. He squatted before them, peering down at the eight men. He raised on side of his straw hat to reveal one of his eyes. The sclera of his eye was black instead of white and the iris itself was white. The strange eye swivelled around in its socket sear

Wow this book is already pulling me in. I hope they are mates. Love all your books Joanna. In your other books we know they are mates but not in this one. Sprout sounds so cute. I love how this is a different time period and different style of story than your other books. Excited for more

Absolutely loved this journey, this story was so different and creative I loved everything about it. Just the right amount of everything without being to much, I could really see this becoming a movie.

Jake was the only one to respond. “Wow, Matt, have I not taught you anything? ” “You’re teaching me now! ” he responded as his sister shook his head. “Is that the one about seeing more than others see...oh wait, are you saying Jake has...” Gabriel added. “A third eye, yes, ” finished Julia. Matt raised a hand. “A what now? ” “The third eye, or the mind’s eye, is a mystical concept of a speculative invisible eye usually depicted as located on the forehead, which provides perception beyond ordinary sight. ”

He might’ve been mistaken for an albino if not for his deep black eyes. Deep was as good a term as Jon could’ve thought up, for the orbs seemed to dwell on and on, like an echo through a dark hallway. They reflected obscure secrets and cryptic answers to which even the questions had been forgotten. Something sinister was in the brain connected to those eyes, something strange and alien. “Come on. Come on,” the ancient said and hustled a little ways away from the others.
