Something—anything—that would drown out the him of my beast. My eyes landed on a thick volume about ancient Lycan myths. It had always been a favorite of mine, and it usually worked to quiet the noise in my head. Maybe it could help now. I grabbed the book and dropped into the nearest chair, flipping through the pages. My hands trembled slightly as I turned each page, even as the words blurred together in front of me. I forced myself to focus on the text, reading about the great wars between packs and the legends of the First Alphas.

Slowly, deliberately, I opened it. Greek mythology. My breath caught. The cover was glossy and new. I flipped it open, the pages crisp beneath my fingertips, the scent of fresh paper and ink rising up, familiar and comforting. Only Damian knew. Only Damian knew how I’d always lost myself in these stories, gods and mortals, tragedies and triumphs, flawed heroes and inevitable endings. How I found comfort in myths that never pretended happy endings were guaranteed. A warmth spread through my chest, tender and bittersweet all at once.

Deciding to take some books to read, I head in. The place was enormous. Rows of books cover the walls and isles. I felt like a kid looking over everything. My fingers touch each cover. Some full of dust, others really old. Intrigued, I stop on an isle that says legend and myths section. Looking at what book to choose. I approach one with a yellow cover. It looked old and dusty. Pulling it out, I read the title, “Goddess.” Curious to know, I take the book and go back. It was thick enough to have me at leas four days distracted on it.

The silence was punctuated only by our quiet murmurs, our shared yearning for a past we never knew, a future we desperately wished for. Later, amidst the twisted metal and rubble, James stumbled upon a tattered book, its cover mostly torn away, revealing only a few words—'The Chronicles of Atheria'. The title alone conjured images of a world far removed from our own, a place of magic and wonder, of brave knights and epic quests. The pages, brittle with age and decay, contained fragmented stories, glimpses of a civilization that had flourished before the catastrophe. It spoke of vibrant cities, of advanced technology, and of a society that lived in harmony with its environment.

She took Ivy's favorite storybook, The Sleeping Beauty, from her hands and placed it on the table beside the bed, thinking her obsession with fairy tales was a little irrational.
