"So I'm named after three people?" Catherine asked.
"Two people," I corrected. "Catherine for my mother and Patricia for my aunt. Your middle name is Patricia."
"That's a lot of dead people to be named after," Catherine observed with the bluntness only a ten-year-old could manage.
"They were important people," I said. "And they would have loved you."
"How do you know?" Catherine asked. "They never met me."
"Because I know them and I know you," I said simply. "And you have the best parts of both of them."
