Nancy Bush Books Novels & Stories

Nancy was sitting on the bed, carefully wrapping the seven scriptures with a piece of cloth. She did not want to join the three brothers’ drinking session, hence she stayed at the Darby Residence to await their return. All seven scriptures had completely dried by the evening and Nancy carefully kept the books. The scriptures were precious and she needed to take good care of them. Screech.

“Once he makes love to me, he’ll stop treating me as his sister!” “Nancy, you’re being naive! Do you actually think Titus is the type to lust after women?” Boaz did not want to argue with her anymore. “If you think that Titus will love you once he sleeps with you, that’s fine. Do it. I won’t stop you.” Clearly, Boaz was disappointed in her. When Nancy saw that Boaz was about to leave, she grabbed his arm. “Boaz, help me! You’re the only one who can right now.”

My mind wasn’t really on studying. I turned a corner and nearly bumped into someone. Professor Kane stood there, holding a thick book. He looked tired but still handsome in his button-down shirt. His eyes widened when he saw me. “Lila,” he said softly. I froze. “Professor. I… I should go.” I turned to leave, but his hand gently caught my arm. “Wait. Please.” The library was silent around us. No one else seemed to be in this section. The smell of old books and quiet air made everything feel intimate again.

He was leaning on the bed and reading a book about soil survey that Nancy had placed on the bedside table. Nancy handed her hair over and went to the bathroom to wash up. When she finished washing up and found that he was still reading that book, she could not help but ask: "Aren't you not interested in this? Can you understand it?" "I don't understand." "Then why do you read it?" "Not much. I'm waiting for you to finish." He put the book back on the bedside table and patted the small space next to him. "Come here." Nancy looked at the small space and gave him a sweet smile. She walked over and knelt down with both hands to push him. "I can't sleep, you go a little more!"

Nancy said quietly. “Keep looking.” She scrolled further, and her frown deepened into something else. “There’s a reference here. A watchdog site that tracks stories that got killed before publication. There’s a working title listed under her byline.” She turned the screen toward me. “Empire of Silence: Corruption Inside Washington’s Elite.” I read it twice. The words didn’t get any less frightening the second time. “She was investigating people like the Laurents.” “Maybe.” Nancy’s voice had gone careful, the way it did when she was worried and trying not to show it. “Milly, I don’t love you doing this by yourself.”

A hint of both curiosity and confusion was still present in her face. Shrugging her off in an attempt to act normal, we walked out of my office and headed down the steps of the museum. Stepping into a cab and driving further away, I looked back at the building and thought of the man that had begun to show me everything I was looking for. Showing herself around my little chateau, Nancy sat on the floor next to the stack of books I had yet to look through. "You read?" She asked, picking up one of the books and dusting the cover.

As the journey continued, the atmosphere in the car began to feel more relaxed. Bob and Nancy exchanged simple questions to get to know each other better. Bob smiled kindly. “So, Nancy, what are your hobbies or interests outside of nursing?” Nancy smiled back. “I like reading and gardening. How about you, Bob? What do you do outside of work?” Bob nodded. “I also like to read, especially detective novels. And I love to explore nature, climb mountains and go on adventures.”

“I admittedly saw you at the cemetery a couple of days ago and I heard you speaking to that ghost.” “What?’ I gasped. “What did you hear?” “I heard you talking about your daughter and how she’s the goddess’s chosen daughter.” “Please, Nancy. Try to forget everything you heard,” I pleaded. “No, you have it wrong,” she said with a head shake. “I want to help. So, I grabbed this.” She pulled out a little black book from her coat and I gasped. That was Gemma’s black book; the one she mentioned could help Wrenley with her powers. She handed me the book and gave me a small smile.

Nancy, nestled against his chest, flipped through a glossy magazine, her sleek bob catching the cabin’s soft lighting. She looked relaxed, her gentle smile a reminder of why I’d always loved her—she was steady, kind, the kind of friend who’d show up with wine and wisdom no matter the crisis. At the back of the plane, Annie and Peter were curled up together, sharing earbuds and watching something on Annie’s tablet, their faces lit by the screen’s glow.

Miranda POV “What are you doing here? I thought you had the week off, “ I tell my boss, Nancy, as she walks into my office. I was really looking forward to having a week without anyone bothering me. I can get so much more done without the constant distraction of small talk and meetings that take forever when a simple conversation would suffice. It's just like the coffee mug Amanda got me last year for Christmas says, “This meeting could have been an email.” Nancy is in her late forties and she's the type of woman who is fighting aging hard. She has her hair dyed an entirely too blonde color that doesn't match her features, and is always talking about which facial creams are reducing her w
