I watched the life drain from Rydan’s eyes. He let out a wet, rattling gulp, his fingers twitching against the marble floor as he tried to find one last breath. His eyes stayed fixed on mine, burning with a pure, unfiltered hatred. His eyes turned glassy and his head lolled back. His body hit the ground with a heavy, final thud.

“Whoa,” Naryssa squealed, grinning as her sharp, inquisitive eyes swept over me. “Look at you — you’ve actually changed within a few hours.” Her gaze flicked between my hair and my eyes before settling on me with mock suspicion. “Your hair’s different, your eyes are brighter… and your aura—” she waved her hand dramatically, “—is way stronger.
