The middle-aged man in the automobile kept his eyes on the road. "Mr. Hawthorne must be feeling pretty smug this time," he commented. "He's definitely coming for a rematch." Nate gave an eye roll. "As if I'm scared of him." The Gilbert family was having dinner tonight. As usual, the Hawthornes had been invited. The two families had many ties through marriage and had been close for many centuries. The families were often in and out of each other's homes because Rose, Luke's mother, was Mrs. Hope Gilbert's second daughter.

Her voice rings sharply through the kitchen. Within seconds, her chauffeur appears. “Chairwoman.” He bows respectfully. “Drive this young woman to the hospital,” Grandma Nessa says calmly. “She claims she was attacked, after all.” The color drains from Ava’s face instantly. Beside her, Nate looks stunned. “Grandmother…” But Grandma Nessa doesn’t let him finish. “You are a married man, Nate Hawthorne,” she says firmly, her tone leaving no room for argument. “You have absolutely no business following another woman around late at night while your wife is here.”

We were silently digging our food when I got disturbed because of Tasha's phone call. "Kimora! You should follow me here in Norton! There's a newly opened bar here; the place is so nice!" she shouted. I grimaced. I looked at my wristwatch; it was just thirty minutes after six, but Tasha's already sounded so drunk. The party also seems to be lively since I can hear the loud music from there. "Norton? That's pretty far!" I grumble. That explains why the road Morris and I were heading down was nonstop. This bitch is in Norton. It is almost three hours away from where our condos are located.
