Nathaniel Hawthorne Novels Novels & Stories

She stopped and read aloud: “Nathaniel Hawthorne was more than just another author who wrote about Salem. He lived in Salem. Most of his stories are set in Salem. Most of the buildings he described in Salem are integral to his stories, and many of them still stand here today. “More importantly, Hawthorne had a direct personal connection to some of the events and characters in his work. His most famous work, for example, The Scarlet Letter, tells the story of a woman, Hester Prynne, who is imprisoned and scorned by her peers for her adulterous behavior. Hawthorne had a more direct connection to these events than one would think. His real grandfather, John Hawthorne, was one of the principal j

“I don’t sleep much.” I should have stepped back, but I didn’t. The room seemed smaller with him in it, the walls pressing in as if to keep us close. He reached past me, plucking a worn leather-bound volume from the shelf. “This one,” he said, setting it on the table, “is worth losing sleep for.” It was an old history text, its pages brittle, the ink faded. He didn’t open it right away—just stood there, one hand resting on the cover, his gaze locked on me like he was searching for something.

I said with a grin. We couldn’t talk much after that because the teacher started class. We were continuing to read The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. It’s a depressing book about a colonial woman who has a child out of wedlock, and is shunned. I don’t know why English teachers insist on having students read such depressing literature. Still, I heard one of the other classes was doing The Crucible by Arthur Miller. Somehow, Scarlet Letter seems less depressing than a bunch of girls faking possession. Maybe.

Nathaniel gave a soft, crooked smile, that same unreadable look in his eyes. “Yeah,” he said. " Me again" Maya looked up at him, really looked at him this time. The calm in his eyes, the strength in his presence,it all felt too surreal. “Who... who are you?” she asked, voice shaky but curious. Nathaniel raised an eyebrow slightly, then gave a small, amused smirk. “Oh. My bad,” he said casually, running a hand through his tousled hair. “I’m Nathaniel. Nathaniel Hawthorne.”

“But improbable.” Nathaniel took the tablet and scrolled himself. Addresses. Permits. Tax filings. A small shop that paid on time. Licenses renewed without delay. No litigation. No corporate entanglements. No social presence worth mentioning. “She has been visible for years,” Nathaniel said. “And invisible at the same time.” “That often means intentional insulation,” Lucas said. “Or careful neglect,” Nathaniel replied. He set the tablet down. “What about her sister.” “Catherine Bloom Hawthorne married into visibility. The Hawthornes are consistent in their methods. Social compliance enforced through pressure, not contracts.”

She grinned, but her eyes stayed watchful. The afternoon stretched. I tried to nap and mostly stared at the ceiling of my old room. Every time I closed my eyes I saw the restaurant floor, the blood, Damien’s back as he shielded Isabella. The way he hadn’t looked at me until it was too late. The stranger’s hand on my wrist during turbulence. The weight of his jacket under my arm. The name on the phone call,Hawthorne’s people. I sat up too fast and the room tilted.

Her legs still pace until she collapses onto the edge of her bed, a sigh escaping her lips. Another thing Nathanael hates about Secs, they have a flair for the dramatic-always whining and crying when things don't go their way. Instead of working for something, they attempt to pray it into existence. He's witnessed the power of prayer first hand, but he harbors no sympathy for those that don't fight for what they want. This one seems to be in the latter category. Throwing his arm back over his eyes, he zones out while this new charge of his rummages around her room.

Minutes later, Ichabod could hear a swift movement behind the shelves and out came a short man in a black tail coat and a large hat which made him look like all those wizards you see in movies like Harry Potter. “Ah! If it isn’t my old friend.” Johhny said cheerfully. “It has been a while since I last saw you. Are you having nightmares again?” “No.” Adams replied, “I would like you to meet someone.” He said, “this is Ichabod Nuel.” Johnny laid his eyes on Ichabod and scanned him from head to toe. A serious smile cracked upon his lips. “Ah. I can see you haven’t come alone young man.”

She tried to relax and clear her mind. Nathaniel pointed out certain buildings and told her their history along the way. She had to admit that it took her mind off the stone. She enjoyed the scenery as they drove into the countryside. Nathaniel had told her that Barnaby lived in the woods and had no neighbors for miles, so she wasn't surprised by the countryside they saw. She also wasn't surprised when they turned down a well-maintained dirt road.

She decided to relax on her bed a bit, slowly she drifted off to sleep. Nathaniel Hawthorne sat in his office, lost in thought, struggling to come to terms with the mate bond he shared with the Omega. His wolf was restless, and his mind was consumed by thoughts of the Omega, more than he cared to admit. He growled, rubbing his forehead, and removed his glasses, feeling frustrated and out of control.
