"Ahem!" Surprised, Nathan turned to see Connie standing in the corner while glaring at them menacingly. "Mom, why are you here?" Nathan was utterly baffled. Wearing a pair of slippers, Connie approached them with a morose look on her face, whereas Nathan cowered under her presence.

Sitting on the edge of the bed, he stared at nothing. His eyes were red, his breathing uneven. He reached for another cigarette, but his hand shook. “Nathan…” A knock at the door. His mother’s voice. “Sweetheart… come downstairs for a minute.” “I don’t want to…” Nathan answered hoarsely.
