Anahita Waterwolf POV We waterwolves have resettled on the banks of the Dream River that runs through the place once known as the Barren. Though to use the word 'barren' in relation to this magnificent place feels ridiculous. Many mornings I sit on the balcony of the packhouse, before the pack stirs, gazing out at the churning, roiling, foaming waves of the river, its banks densely packed with rich, dark mud. The colours of the river at dawn--blue, mauve, purple, indigo, green--remind me of the lifestone and that night when the poison was driven out. The lifestone disappeared, it's work done. ODETTE After a close to eighteen-hour flight with two stops in between—one of which Gunnar had made, we landed in South Africa, in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. We were hauled up in a hotel room near the beach. The city we were staying in—from the little I had seen—was beautiful. Durban seemed to be filled with people of different races and ethnicity. It was different from what I had expected. Then again, I didn't know what to expect when Ace said we were going to a safe house. All I knew was that we wouldn't be staying at this hotel for very long.

It's mostly mountains, elks, and forests, and it's one of the most beautiful places in the kingdom, filled with picturesque views straight out of a fantasy movie. And now I'm understanding where the Palace of the Clouds might be, and how it got its name. As the plane turned around for its descent, I noticed a giant mansion sitting on top of a high mountain. The drive to Boise was spectacular. Flying over everything all the time, you never really get to appreciate the beauty of this incredible country. We went through mountains and deserts, spent an hour riding along a huge lake, it was amazing. We started out on Friday at six, well before the sun came up, and spent the early morning in the valley between the Inyo Mountains and the Sierra Nevadas before making our way into Nevada proper. We skirted Walker lake and headed through Nevada's stunning Great Basin Desert before heading into the mountains of Idaho.

Koa’s POV Nevada air tastes different. It is drier than the woods back east, but somehow cleaner and crisper. The scent of pine rides every breeze, drifting through the ridgelines and canyons like an old lullaby I barely remember humming as a boy.
