I continued to squeeze. Its right eye – the one where an eye should be – ballooned outwards to almost twice the size of its counterpart. I could see the blood vessels engorging on the white of its eyeball, tiny splits appearing across the surface which began to seep blood, a violent burst of bloodied tears pouring down its face.

Children are crying and calling for their mothers while lying in bed. I approached there. I was moved by what I saw. It's almost the same age as Aiden but it's tragic. I felt his forehead and it was so hot that it seemed to burn. The child's tears were flowing, his skin was flushed. His hands are covered with cloth to prevent him from scratching his skin. His skin is too red like it was pricked with millions of needles. Is this still normal? I asked myself because it was so hot that I moved my hand away. After all, I felt like I would burn if I held my hand out.

A howl ripped out of me, and then a loud, piercing cry tore through the air. My body collapsed, spent and broken, but I forced my eyes open. And there he was. Our baby. He was wrapped in a white swaddle cloth, his skin glowing faintly. “Hi, baby," I whispered. "You made it." His eyes flashed open, and I gasped. One of his eyes was dark purple like mine. But the other was golden. And there was a strange mark below his left ear. It was a half circle with a dot inside of it.

The skin stopped writhing and buzzed instead, to make the baby look like it was having a seizure. The man pushed the baby from his arms and scurried to the body on the bed. He pointed the shaking knife at his baby and watched as black fog seeped from the nostrils and the closed eyelids. Little droplets of blood leaked out of these crevices but none of us dared to touch the baby. Its eyes snapped open, which had light black irises, and it gasped in a breath to begin bawling; writhing on the ground. “N-No” the man began sobbing again “NO! YOU’RE DEAD!”
