“Shit,” she muttered. She had forgotten to tell them she wasn’t coming home last night. The sex with Ian had exhausted her so completely that she hadn’t had the energy to pick up the phone.
She almost called out for Nicholas when she spotted him on one of the sofas, slowly sitting up. He was dressed up.
“She finally shows up,” Nicholas said, straightening. She could smell the alcohol on him even from across the room.
“Were you drinking?” she asked, shocked. Had his breakup with Leslie turned him into an alcoholic? It would explain the unnatural niceness on the phone.
