he tried to continue but Nina quickly cut him short.
“Marcus,” she called, trying to keep her voice steady. “We need to talk, I didn't call you to hear any of your funny stories. Can we meet somewhere outside the city?”
There was a pause on the other end. “All right,” Marcus said finally. “Just text me the address.”
Nina quickly suggested a quiet park on the outskirts of town, a place she knew would be relatively secluded. Marcus agreed, and they set a time for the following day.
The next morning, Nina dressed carefully, choosing simple but elegant clothes that made her feel confident. She told no one where she was going, not even Henry. This was something she needed to handle alone.
