Sabrina's POV There was something fishy about Nico's entire performance, like watching a snake shed its skin in real time. One minute, he was all soft eyes and sweet words; the next, I'd catch something flickering across his face that made my blood run cold. Desperation. Hunger. Something darker lurked beneath the romantic dinner facade, like rot under fresh paint.

His dark eyes studied the younger man as he closed the door behind him. “You look like you’ve just seen a ghost,” Nero quipped. “I might have,” Nico murmured under his breath, settling into the seat opposite Nero. “Or maybe I’m about to.” There was a brief moment of silence in which Nico studied Nero carefully, making the younger man irritated.
