But that didn’t make it any less terrifying. The Warehouse Raid The night was quiet, the city lights flickering in the distance as Alejandro and his team moved toward the warehouse. The air smelled of oil and damp concrete, the streets empty except for the occasional distant honk of a car.

The raid was three days ago and they were still cleaning up. Still waiting for Sarah’s next move. The day passed normally, she saw patients at the clinic, checked on the asylum wolves and had dinner with Beth and Riley. By ten PM she was exhausted, she went to the penthouse to sleep. Her phone rang at eleven thirty with Riley’s name on the screen. “The apartment building is under attack,” he said. No preamble. “Firebombs. Hunters. We need everyone.”

Her earpiece crackled in the dark. “Target fled,” Rane’s tense voice said. “North exit’s clear. Elias is ten seconds out. Stay put.” Lyra let out a breath. “About time.” A small smirk touched her lips. This time, they were hunting him. One breath then chaos. Kade and Theo threw two smoke grenades into the front bay. Thick white clouds rolled over crates and forklifts. Two thugs stumbled out, coughing and blindly aiming their guns. Rane appeared behind them two quick tranq darts into their backs. They dropped instantly.

I need some Ray. In the dark, I quickly find my clothes, and change out of my nightgown, into a long black sleeved shirt and thick black jeans, and another fur coat, but closer to a hood, giving me more room to run in case another person tries to come after me. Tim said, "I call the second we hear a shift." The night raid moved under low clouds. Nora, Blake, Drew, and a handful of fighters slipped down the ridge path. Lily and Tim held the mid point with two guards. Flags ready. Ears open. Blake whispered at the first marker. "Cache ahead. Two guards. We take them quiet." Nora answered. "Do it. Twins, status."

Aria quietly weighed her options. A frontal assault was too risky. The members of Nightrain had mortars and firearms. The gap in firepower was too great, and she risked alerting them. If she failed, not only would the researchers remain captive, but the whole mission could collapse. Disguise and infiltration might be possible, but Nightrain was notorious for its paranoia. Strangers were treated with suspicion, and bullets came before questions. If she tried, she would need an airtight cover.
