Night Watch A Novel Novels & Stories

For many, it was a sign that transparency was returning; for others, it was a reminder that vigilance must never wane. In the final hours before dawn, as the compound slowly settled into a cautious sleep, Donavon stood on the balcony, gazing out into the darkness. The silence was heavy with uncertainty, yet beneath it lay the promise of a new day—a day when every wolf would know that even the unseen threats would be met with the full, unwavering light of unity.

Ethan's POV The night air was cold. My eyes was alert in the night like day. I stood at the north watchtower, arms folded behind my back, eyes fixed on the dark stretch beyond Blood Moon’s gates. Five nights of standing still while everyone else slept. That was my sentence. Beta Finn’s voice replayed in my head. “You forget your place.” I scoffed quietly, I hadn’t forgotten my place, I knew who I was, a scout. The one who sees what others don’t, and what I saw was a pack that had become too comfortable, and distracted with Alpha Lucien and Luna Maya, gone.

“It’s the men hiding inside them.” Below them, the border village slept, the roofs coated in pale moonlight, the chimneys giving off thin spirals of smoke. Children curled against their mothers. Merchants slept with their ledgers under their pillows. Wolves, in human or fur, tucked into their dens believing the night was safe. The danger arrived three heartbeats later. A sharp whistle cut through the silence. The watchman straightened. “Did you, ” Arrows rained from the treeline. A scream cracked open the night as the first guard toppled backward, an arrow lodged in his throat. The young watchman spun, reaching for the bell rope, but another arrow sank into his chest before he could pull it.

Because if I had felt even the faintest pull toward him right now— I might have broken it myself. I stood, slipping the journal back into place exactly as I had found it. No trace. No disturbance. The wards would not show what had been taken. I didn’t hesitate to leave The wards sealed behind me. And then disappeared into the night. Third person; Somewhere deep within Nightbane— A ward flickered. Silent but enough to mean that something had been touched. Something that was not meant to be found. And this time— It would not stay buried.

Abby's POV After a long, healing night wrapped in his arms, I lay awake in the quiet darkness, staring down at the antique pocket watch my grandfather had given me. It was like it had a reality of its own. The delicate golden hands pointed firmly to 9:00 PM—the exact same time Nicholas had violently attacked me in my office. But when I checked the actual bedside digital clock, glowing softly in the dark, it read 3:00 AM. This magical watch was keeping its own mysterious time. It was counting down.

I returned to the basement office just as the first pale, grey light of dawn began to cut through the mist outside the window. The clock read exactly 5:50 AM. I sat down on the wooden chair, smoothing out the front of my dry grey maintenance uniform. I folded my hands neatly in my lap, my face turning into a flawless, stoic mask of absolute innocence. The long night was over. The shadow audit was complete. I could hear the distant, heavy sound of leather boots clicking down the stairs, Cassandra Vance was arriving early with her guards, ready to spring her perfect trap. She had no idea that the little maid had stayed awake in the dark, rewriting the lines of the timeline, and turning her gra

The tiny light flickered three times. Paused. Then twice. Then once. A pattern. Not chance. Communication. Noah was already writing furiously. Naturally. The rest of us watched the darkness. Waiting. The signal repeated. Three. Two. One. The same rhythm. The same sequence. Again. And again. Mira closed her eyes. A single tear slipped down her cheek. When she spoke, her voice was barely above a whisper. "It's a Watchkeeper's call." The forgotten road glowed faintly beneath us.

I shook my head and wiped the blood from my eyes, only to see everyone gathered around Daniel. Meanwhile, he kept pretending to be in pain, holding a watch that had somehow appeared in his hand, and saying something toward me. In the final moment before my consciousness faded, I finally made out what he was mouthing. "Nicholas, you really were the one who stole it. The watch you hid in your sleeve just fell out." … I had no idea how much time had passed when I finally came to on the cold floor. The TV was still playing a rerun of a Christmas variety show, loud and cheerful, but the room was completely empty.

She would hide them under the couches during the day and bring them out at night . "It's cold isn't it? I'll go get us some blankets." Nova whispers, finding solace in the snores that could be heard from their mother's bedroom. It was a chilly evening , nonetheless the faint sunlight shone upon the ground , lighting up the dirt of the streets . Nova's hands push open the creaky front door , freezing as it made more noise than usual . She looks around , wondering if she had accidentally woken up her mother . When no sounds were out of place , she sighed with relief and slipped out with a gentle closing of the door.

As the cool evening air breezed past us, I felt my eyelids begin to grow heavy, the tension I’d once felt sitting on this metal death-trap slipping away. Yawning, I rested my head gently against Nicholas’s shoulder, the warmth radiating from him surprisingly comforting. Some time later, I awoke to find myself no longer on the motorcycle but instead laying in a soft bed, the faint glow of moonlight filtering through the curtains. Blinking slowly, I realized I was back in my room, tucked under the covers. My shoes were neatly lined up by the armchair under the window, my jacket laying over the arm.
