She could feel the eyes of the entire pack on her, and the heat in her chest intensified. Something wasn’t right. He took a deep breath, a long pause that seemed to stretch on forever. Then, he spoke. “Selene Nightshade, I, Darius, Alpha of the Shadowfang Pack, hereby reject you as my Luna.”

Cassian hesitated. Then he said a single word. “Nightbane.” The name rippled through the courtyard like a curse. Hatred was the feeling that flowed through his strings at me, and it hurt. Of course I had no right to feel like that; but my emotions never do as they're told and I refuse to rip these ones out.
