Dimitri sprang to his feet, ready to pounce on the coyote alpha when a wail ripped the night. Everyone froze, their attention going straight to where Neal knelt beside Tina, her eyes staring lifeless into the night sky. Neal turned to face Bane as he rose to his feet, his hands covered in blood as his face took on a feral look. He clenched his fists and snarled. Before Dimitri could do anything, Neal rushed Bane, screaming as he closed the distance, his hands out in claws as he lunged, ready to kill the other man. Bane growled as he caught Neal by the throat, lifting him, and just before Dimitri could reach them to stop what he feared would happen, Bane twisted Neal's neck with a loud snap,

It landed near Xaren’s boot, catching in a crack between two stones. A flicker of motion drew Xaren’s eye. He crouched quickly, plucking the parchment from the ground. It was small—folded tightly, stained with blood at the corners and smudged with dirt. “What is it?” Darius didn’t answer right away. His gaze flicked to the pack members gathered in the ceremonial hall, some sitting, some standing, all of them waiting. She could feel the eyes of the entire pack on her, and the heat in her chest intensified. Something wasn’t right. He took a deep breath, a long pause that seemed to stretch on forever. Then, he spoke. “Selene Nightshade, I, Darius, Alpha of the Shadowfang Pack, hereby reject you as my Luna.”

Sammy followed and then came Cash and Samson. The ritual continued until all the Vampires joined. Next came the Humans.
