she shouted. I quickly stepped out of the café, ready to run home when I stopped in my tracks. A bunch of warriors were cutting through the downtown area, heading to their cars that were parked nearby. Shit, I hadn’t considered that warriors might be out this early in the morning. Of course, they worked shifts at all hours of the day. They all looked up and had their eyes on me, like moths to a flame. There was no doubt that they could sense that same debilitating need that I'd been dealing with all morning.

A dread older than time crawled through the air, slithering under their skin. Birds screamed, fleeing into the night. The wind howled as if mourning. “She’s here,” Thora choked out, stumbling back. A collective shudder passed through the gathered warriors. The clouds did not simply gather. They circled. Something was coming. Zander was blind to all of it, trapped in a world of his own devastation. He sobbed against Butterfly’s hair, rocking her still form, pleading, bargaining with the gods who had long since abandoned him. “ZANDER!”

I gasped. Lunar Eclipse was more of a pack of mercenaries. No one knew the real names of the pack members, as they all had some sort of code name. The Alpha of the pack was known as Shadowstrike. Shadowstrike was considered the ultimate warrior, with skills that a normal werewolf didn’t possess. He could strike his opponents down with a single blow, but it wasn’t just because he was strong. There was a rumor that he could expel some sort of energy in his attacks that could knock someone down without ever touching them.

Asher glanced at me and then nodded. “Good afternoon guys,” Asher said, his voice loud and clear. “The first snow has hit us, which means the winter is officially here. In less than a month we might be facing a fucking devastating war…” Loud murmurs spread through the warriors and hunters, everyone looking concerned. “Yes,” Asher nodded. “We will be facing not just werewolves, but even vampires and goddess know what else. I won’t try to sugarcoat it one bit but we’re pretty fucked up at the moment.”
