At some invisible command, a pack leaps from cover and rushes toward them. The attackers are intercepted by another pack. This one has daubed itself with an incandescent paint and they move among the attackers like wraiths, cutting a swathe through them. The doors of the pack house finally open. Light spills out. The three enter. The fighting continues. A fine mist of blood rises from the battlefield. The vision flickers and disappers. I hear a voice calling. I look at Darius, to see if he hears it too. From the sudden tension in his posture, he does. At first I can't make out the words. It's like someone shouting through water. We understand the words at the same time.

It was too dark in the forest. The light of the moon was clouded and it seemed it would rain anytime soon. As gloomy as the outlook, Nemiah’s heart was heavy as they ran through the deep woods. As expected, it started to rain. Nemiah’s tears streamed down, synchronizing with the cry of the heavens. Namir heard her whimper so he stopped and took shade under the lushes of trees. She cried louder as the rain became heavier. Namir saw Nemiah's burden so he wrapped his body around her to give her warmth.
