I shot a glance at Xavier, but his expression was carefully blank.

Weakly her hand reaches up and touches my cheek, her thumb brushing a tear I didn’t realize was falling. A howl of victory reaches the air and the sound of wolves retreating can be heard. I can’t turn my eyes from her. I see a blank look cross her eyes before her eyes flutter close. I pull her to me tighter. I look around frantically for help. I see a now naked Wilder standing over an unconscious but alive Xavier. A pair of wolves run up and grab Xavier from the ground. Faster than I knew a werewolf could move, Wilder is in front of me.
