A low cry erupted from my lungs. The ringing of my phone vibrated from somewhere close by, and I looked up, seeing the reflection of its bright screen on the nightstand beside the bed. Bettany's name lit up the screen. I pushed myself to the edge of the bed, making the nightgown shift higher this time, riding farther up my thigh. My eyes widened, and my legs went numb. A tattoo I had never seen before sat boldly on my left thigh, written like a claim: Xavier's Little Cub.

he asked. “My name is Lil—” I glimpsed a tattoo right above his sleeve line, “This is going to sound weird, but— Is it ok if I touch you?” I nervously asked him. “Yea, sure... I guess that's fine,” he mumbled. Slowly I shifted his t-shirt sleeve, revealing the rest of the tattoo to me. It was a tattoo of a crescent moon, with what seems to be a hidden message or an ancient language written on the inside of it. I swiftly pulled away in fear, because I recognized this strange symbol, I have dreamt of this crescent, night after night as a child watching over my dreams in a third person's perspective.

THE NIGHTMARE MASTER DIDN’T bother to dress me in some elaborate get-up like the other Nightmare Lords and instead just dressed me in a lab coat with a black shirt, black jeans, surgical gloves, a face mask, and sneakers. Those were the details he cared about, though it was the blood covering every inch of my clothes and exposed skin. My lab coat had once been white, but was now encrusted with red blood. My hair and skin suffered the same fate, though thankfully the face mask covered most of my face and the gloves covered my hands. Still, every time he gives me control, I wash everything off, scrubbing my skin until it is red.

It was a beautiful wolf with a crescent moon on its head.

I reach forward, catching a few of her fingers in my hand. She takes a deep breath, looking down out where our hands are joined. Slowly, hesitantly, she laces our fingers together. She looks up at me and her breathing stutters from between her lips. It’s not until then that I realize that I was holding my breath and it comes out in a rush. She licks her lips and looks at me. I feel my chest tighten, as well as my pants, as I watch her tongue move across her luscious lips. “It’s a tattoo to cover up some of the scars that I had from my time in Black Night.”

Slowly, the world starts to piece itself back together. I roll off him, settling onto my side, pulling him against me. I grab the fur throw from the chair and drape it over us. Kieran is tracing a tattoo on my bicep. The old Redmaw mark I tried to burn off years ago, now just a scar covered by fresh ink. “They’re going to keep coming,” he whispers.
