It revealed a swirling, ink-black void that smelled of old parchment and forgotten tears. Within an hour, dozens of these "Soul-Rifts" had appeared across the three continents, each one acting as a localized gravity well for the subconscious.

The hungry looking rogues circled us, smacking their lips together and growling. Rachel pulled me into her and let out a kick to one of the rogues. She was a great fighter while I just stood their like a useless idiot. Picking up a long stick beside me I poked one of the rogues in the eye making him yell out in pain. Buying myself a few more minutes to think, I found myself wishing I could reach Ben by mindlink. "We're coming. Don't worry." His voice filled my mind and I squeaked in response. POV - ESMEE BADEUAX My tears fall backward, burning as they singe their way down my throat. The room is dark and I can barely see a thing, the last thing I remembered was being knocked out. I try to get up but I'm pulled back by chains, this chair is so uncomfortable that my back is starting to hurt. I start to shift in my seat so that I can get a bit comfortable. "Stop that." Says a voice from a distance. "Where am I?" I question the person. I can't see him clearly because it's too dark. "Who are you?" I asked once more.

In Vancouver, gravity reversed in a two-block radius. Riley felt each one through her hybrid senses, like ice picks driven into her brain. Luna's network detected wrongness in the collective unconscious. Thousands of hybrids reported nightmares of darkness eating the world. Yvonne's research pointed to one terrible conclusion. The Unified Defense Initiative worked frantically, but preparation felt like rearranging deck chairs on a sinking ship.

In the flickering light, her face twisted into something monstrous and wild. I was suddenly overcome with a wave of sickness, letting out a cry of agony. I writhed on the ground, but the invisible flames kept burning me. My entire body felt like it was on fire as I curled into a ball on the floor. My voice was raspy, a wild, beast-like roar escaping my lips: "I'm burning up, someone help me, please!" Joanna just stood there, watching with icy detachment, unmoved by my suffering. My friend, Melissa Jones, started shrieking at the top of her lungs, "Oh my gosh! Someone call 911 or something! Wren's got a demon in her!"

The flickering lamplight cast long shadows across the room, mirroring the turmoil within Lena's heart. The sword—the Moonblade—glowed so fiercely it nearly blinded her, sensing the unraveling of everything it was sworn to protect.

After everyone showered, which got delayed because Ife was happy to be able to to get ravished by all of her mates at the same time, they enjoyed a candle light dinner on the balcony. Duskin updated her and the twins on his findings concerning Jacob and Esime. They had gone to another realm to hide out, one that wasn’t used freely and came with a steep price. They sacrificed a part of a soul every time they entered this realm and they most likely were using souls from the growing list of missing people. Ife suddenly felt an overwhelming feeling of doom headed their way. She didn’t know if it was for the pup or pups in her womb. If it was because of the battle ahead of them with Jacob and Esi

He drove me furiously for me to transform into someone I never thought I would’ve. I could’ve stopped myself and let myself lose that day. I didn’t. While he was bragging about how strong he is, and how he can be the next Alexander the Great or Samson, I used all of my force to pull him down. His body dropped to the ground then I raged into the fire. I did not know what happened next. What I can remember was that I was using my force to fight him. Then I lost consciousness. While dreaming, I glanced at where I was falling. I saw bricks and stones scattered on the ground. My fall would be painful in real life. Maybe in dreams as well.

I numbly walk into the room, shutting the door behind Nathan and don't register anything after my head hit the pillow. - I felt achy and incoherent. I squinted to see, but everything was blurry and moving in gray and dark colors. I reached up to inspect my eye and jolted at the pain that shot through my cheek. And I touched something wet. Blood. I blinked to focus and I saw them running to me, Spencer and Junto. A creature gangly hovering over me, must have thought I was alone. I tried to focus on it, but it was black like the night and moved swiftly—making it impossible to focus on it.
