Nightmares crawl up through the cracks, dozens of them, hundreds, dragging themselves into the light like puppets yanked forward by invisible strings.
They don’t rush. They inch forward little by little.
Their limbs jerk unnaturally. Heads loll at impossible angles. Mouths open and close soundlessly, as if screaming behind glass. Threads of shadow stretch upward from their backs, vanishing into the air above us.
She is controlling them with an invisible hand. All of this is part of her design.
