Describing the blood pooling on the wet asphalt. Marcus's heart pounded. He wanted to cover his ears, but his hands wouldn't move. He wanted to scream, but his throat had seized. The same paralysis that gripped him in the nightmare had seized him now, in the waking world. And then the voice stopped. The silence was worse. Marcus lay there, frozen, waiting. He heard the man above him shift slightly. The old springs creaked. Then the voice returned, but this time it was different. Softer. Almost kind.

He was close, held in the deepest level of the facility. As they reached the third basement level, they were met with a wall of sound. High-frequency emitters, hidden in the walls, began to pulse with a sound that was designed to scramble a wolf’s senses. It was a physical weight on Laila’s mind, a screeching agony that made her vision blur and her knees buckle. Kaden roared in pain, his hands flying to his ears as he collapsed against the wall. The Obsidian enforcers were similarly incapacitated, their wolf forms struggling to maintain coherence under the sonic assault.

The sound of his nose breaking ricocheted off the forest, alerting anyone nearby of our presence. A sea of red and orange spread instantly behind Nathan and the undead vampires. The fire spread closer and closer, stopping at my feet, going around me, and continuing into the army of vampires. Confusion settled over me as I watched the fire continue around us and consume more vampires.
