Nightshade Keri Lake Novels & Stories

The sky didn't turn gray; it turned green. ‎ ‎We were three hours north of the camp, deep in the rocky foothills of the Dead Zone. Dr. Aris needed Nightshade Root for the antidote prototype, and Kaelen had insisted on leading the harvesting party himself. ‎ ‎"It’s not safe for you to be out here," Kaelen had argued. ‎ ‎"I know what the root looks like," I had countered. "You’ll pull up weeds. I’ll pull up medicine."

He reassured her almost immediately and Keira chuckled, "Okay then, we have a deal." Xander won't stop thanking her, she'd to hang up the call on him, when a cab drove by. That night, Xander drove Keira to the party location, which was over two miles away from the school. Lake Vaquero was an artificial lake with lots of water, lots of sand, lots of trees, and mostly no people, except Xander's friends. He introduced Keira to them as his girlfriend to avoid a lot of questioning and she played as one, having been apprised earlier.

Kieran’s voice came through the link just when I arrived at the lake. My eyes went wide seeing the beautiful display in front of my eyes. Everything looked ethereal. There was a huge white tent set up and thousands of lights were ready to be lit up. Not far from the fire pits that would be roasting the piglets Ella ordered for this day, there was a small wood set up that I made so the musicians could play and entertain our people. I sighed hoping that Sabine would like it. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, inhaling the cold winter smell. It would definitely snow soon, I said to myself and Kieran hummed back agreeing.

Sophia laughed, "Don't worry honey. I share the sentiment." "Are all the wolves in the Nightshade pack like you two?" "Like what Kira?" "Complicated?" "You haven't seen anything. Wait till you meet Mark." Sophia laughed. "Mark with the really big dick?" They turned to her at the same time, "Male wolves-" "Are completely off limits for you Missy." Sophia finished. Kira smiled, "I think I'm going to like the Nightshade territory." She walked past them still with a smile on her face.

"Mummy, can we go to the ancient frost lake near the lower plaza?" Liora begged, pulling back from Kaelen's neck and bouncing on her heels. "Auntie Selene said there are red koi fish swimming under the clear ice! I want to feed them!" I looked up at Kaelen. His dark face was unreadable, but I could see the sudden shift in his posture—the rare softness in his eyes that only our children could evoke. "We need to stay sharp for tomorrow's match, Lyra," Kaelen said softly, though his hand remained protective on Liora's back. "But an hour on the lower lake won't hurt."

Once she was settled with food, I followed the healer to his office and closed the door firmly behind us. "What's wrong with her eyes?" I asked directly, not bothering with pleasantries. The healer adjusted his glasses, looking down at the results. "She has night blindness and optic nerve damage. It's mild but—" My heart clenched painfully. "Optic nerve damage?" I felt the blood drain from my face as possibilities raced through my mind. I could arrange specialized treatment immediately. The Nightshade pack's healing center in the Northern Territory employed the finest practitioners. Or perhaps the facilities in the Eastern Territories would be better—they specialized in regenerative therapie

I whined and refused, covering my body with a gray duvet. "Come on, Kira, stop being a downer and get your ass off the bed. You're married to this mattress at this point, and if you don't watch out, it's going to be as flat as your social life.” I bit down on a smile. "Fine, thirty minutes, and I'm back here.” We made our way to Silver Lake, a spot Zion and the guys who had visited before us couldn't stop raving about back at camp. They swore it was home to friendly water nymphs. The lake was massive, surrounded by woods, and a sight to behold.

Keith stopped walking and looked back, gaze at his father with a cynical gaze. "You can say it now!" "You're wrong if I can just trust Zarius without consideration, Keith! you're the one who hastens to conclude. It was a cave in the Southern forest. I once heard a legend about a lake where a water dragon lived for thousands of years and that lake there is in that cave!" "So, what should I do with that lake? you want me to swim in it, so that foreign energy can't enter my body, is that so?" "You're right, Keith!"

I side glanced at her and gave no interest in whatever she was going to say and shrugged my shoulders. "C'mon Hera, you'll like it." Selene adds and pokes my side, making me flinch and swat her hand. "If it's about Liam–." "Exactly it is about him and his squad." Ceres cut me off who's now standing behind me. She rests her hands on my shoulder and turns my body to look at the guy who's locking the door. "They are the kids in the sacred lake." "Who cares– wait what?!" I suddenly turned around to face Ceres, wide eyed.

"The stories are already spreading. A luna bond with a human during territorial war. A child that the old records call Prime. You can understand why this draws attention." "I understand. But understanding does not require approval." Something that might have been amusement moved across his face. "No. It does not." The second pack arrived from the west. Nightshade. Their alpha was a woman I had heard about but never seen. Kiera Nightshade, dark-haired and sharp-eyed with an expression that gave away nothing. She brought three wolves with her, all female, all moving with synchronized precision. She stopped beside Marcus and looked at Damien and me with cool assessment.
