His eyes twinkled as they collided with my own, “Daughters of the sun and sea, two once powerful kingdoms brought down to their knees.”
“Exactly.” I nodded, too easily absorbed into the conversation when it was Dain talking. “What does it mean?”
“You and Nadia, you are what’s left of your houses. House Thatcher brought Nadia’s house to its knees, and she did the same to yours.” He explained, the muscles in his throat working as he took another drink. I sipped at my own, enjoying the way it warmed me and made my thoughts feel light but not jumbled. “Dying legacies where only one will stand. One of you will die, and your House along with it.”
