Just a Little Too Late
"Dad, please don't leave me."
I looked at her one last time.
Once, I'd stayed in Northbridge eight long years for her sake. Now, my family was gone, and I had nothing left. I didn't want anything anymore, either.
I booked my own flight. I didn't even know where I was going. As long as I could get away, anywhere would do.
The wind in Northbridge always seemed to carry a damp, musty smell. I stood in the airport terminal, dragging a single suitcase behind me. The overhead speakers announced a flight delay.
