“We’re here to discuss concerns,” another council member says. “About your recent actions.”
I tilt my head slightly. “Which ones.”
The silence stretches, tight and deliberate, and I let it, because I know exactly what they want, which is for me to fill the space with justification before they’ve even defined the accusation.
Finally, the first speaker leans forward slightly. “You’ve been receiving an unusual volume of private communications.”
“Yes.”
“Communications that bypass established channels.”
“Yes.”
