The Way You Taste
The old trees that surround us seem to whisper, inviting us in.
“Come on,” Holden says, motioning for me to enter. There’s tension in his voice, an edge that wasn’t there before. I glance over at him, noticing the slight crease between his brows, and the way he scans the surroundings.
It’s like walking into a dream, or maybe a legend. I’m stepping into another world.
“Something’s not right,” Holden whispers, grabbing my hand in a tight grip.
My breath catches, and I feel warmth take over my chest. This is the first time he’s held my hand in a non-sexual situation. He’s unconsciously seeking my touch to calm him. He’s seeking the comfort of the bond.
