He held my hand like that, until his stop came, and then, he let go and disappeared into the crowd.
The next day, he didn't hesitate. He sat down, and his hand went straight to mine, interlocking our fingers under the newspaper on my thigh. And for some reason I still don't fully understand, I didn't mind. The fear and confusion were still there, but mixed in was a strange, lonely feeling of a connection. I knew him holding my hand was wrong, but it felt nice. It gave me a warm feeling, a connection. In my isolated world, where I received so little kindness or touch, this felt like something. Besides it had become our little secret.
