The name of a certain novel came inside of her mind— The Lady's Possessive Prince— and thinking about it, she found it funny how she had to dream about the novel now. The novel was quite popular amongst her workmates, and the reason she took interest in it was because of how the female lead had the same name to her— 'Seraphine'. Reading it, Seraphine got to learn how it took place in the western historical setting, and the era wasn't quite clear to her. The story centered around the female lead, 'Seraphine'. Like all the female lead, 'Seraphine' was kind and well-liked by most around her, and throughout the story, she gained love of more people.

Lenora I was so restless, but couldn't shut my eyes. TV didn't help, so I reached out for one of the novels I had seen in the library, "Pride and Prejudice." I tried to immerse myself in the lives of Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, but when I adjusted the angle of my desk lamp, the pages blurred, and with each turn, my interest waned. My mind wandered to CJ and Kia in the bedroom. It was ironic because she had more right to him than I did. She was his wife, and I was just the other woman.

I looked up to see Carter standing in the doorway, holding a thick novel. “Here,” he said, tossing the book onto the bed. “Pride and Prejudice. Thought it might suit your delicate sensibilities.” I groaned. “Seriously? Do you expect me to just sit here and read while you do… whatever it is you do?” “Pretty much,” he replied with a smirk. “Unless you prefer more kissing?” I threw a pillow at him, which he deftly dodged. “In your dreams, Carter.” He chuckled. “They are. Frequently.”

The inside of the vehicle was hot because of the heater and he was suffocating with all the clothes he had to wear to cover himself. He arrived at the literature faculty and headed to the auditorium. The professor was talking about one of the most popular works in England. Pride and Prejudice. Jane Austen was one of his favourite authors because she wasn't afraid to write and describe things as she saw them in real life. He smiled because he knew everything the professor was saying. After all, he had already read all her books, maybe twice or more. In order not to waste time, he opened his book; The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

I wanted to read, to do something that reminded me of normalcy. I looked at my growing shelf of books and decided to pick Pride and Prejudice. It was one of my favorite books as I was a sucker for romance novels. I flipped to the first page and began. "It is a truth, universally acknowledged, that a man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife."

I yelled out, more of a rebuke of his lasting presence in my head, than of the figure behind the door. Not long after his departing footsteps fell on the floor with a heavy thud, I heard an ecstatic voice downstairs. Since the maids were all gone. I could only make a guess…that blonde Lucifer. I searched for a book in one of my luggages that held the books that formed my mini library, and dug out Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.

I couldn’t help but scoff at the irony as she held up “Pride and Prejudice” I had yet to read it but had it on my reading list so I understood the concept. Just from the synopsis I remembered reading, could I compare myself and the handsome boy in front of me to Elizabeth Bennet and the wealthy Mr. Darcy? Maybe reading it would be enlightening and since it was already on my reading list at home, I could also check that book off. She brought out stacks of copies and placed them at the start of each row, asking that they be handed back. Owen didn’t even turn around as he raised my copy over his head and just dropped it onto the desk with a loud thud before I could even grab it from his hands.

Everything I did now was deliberate. Precious sat across from me then, legs crossed, posture stiff, eyes cold in a way that grief often hardens them. She looked nothing like the woman Croft once married, the soft, hopeful girl who believed marriage could protect her. This Precious was sharper, carved by abandonment and pride, more enclosed in her personal wealth. That pleased me. Broken people were easier to redirect. She didn’t agree to anything immediately. Precious never rushed. She listened, calculated, and weighed what she had lost against what she could still reclaim. I spoke slowly and carefully, feeding her truths wrapped in bitterness.

’ All these questions were flying around my head, when suddenly the loud howl was heard again sending shivers down my spine as this sounded different like an outside communication. Whilst I waited to see if there was any further howling, I glanced at the alarm clock, seeing that it said 3am I sighed inwardly as I know that I wouldn’t be able to sleep now due to all the unanswered questions going on in my head. Getting up from the window seat, I headed to my bookshelf to pick up my favourite book, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin, I switched on my lamp as I went past and got comfortable on the sofa to read until I had to get up ready for breakfast in a few hours as I knew I wouldn’t be able
