He pressed on something I didn't see and obviously was ignorant of realising was even there in the first place. The shelf split into two halves, opening to what looked like a new space. He looked back once, a smirk dancing on his lips. I looked to my left and right, as though I was waiting for someone to push me. Heaving a sharp inhale, I reluctantly approached. The walls were made with wood-panelled designs, shiny and reflecting the flames from the torches whose sconces were rusty, hinting at many years since their creation. My eyes grew wide as I took in the full view of what was inside.

"Fine. Go sit by the front. Take Novalee." I leave him with the catalogue. I wander through the smaller decor aisles with Novalee and Nina trailing behind. I pick up three small, heavy iron figurines of wolves and drop them into a smaller basket. I find two large oil paintings of dark northern forests. No people. Just trees and snow. Novalee blocks my path as I reach for a large, silver-framed mirror. "Skip the mirrors, Betty. Too many mirrors in a pack house just mean more glass to clean when someone throws a punch."

The fifth one was kept to interact with the CEO Office and the sixth had the ability to connect with all the extensions in the Emperor's building. An oil painting featuring a black panther was hung on the wall at the entrance. The background was of the vast Eastern African grassland. In the painting, the panther was strong and fierce. Its green eyes seemed to have a murderous look, ready to pounce at its prey. Those who saw it could not help but shudder. It was intimating just like its owner! On the other wall, there was a huge bookshelf, stacked with books of various genres. On the wall facing the desk was a huge LCD screen for the meeting.

The floor, heated to a whisper of warmth, was a mosaic of creamy Carrara and smoky grey Bardiglio, arranged in a geometric pattern that seemed to shift and change depending on your vantage point. One wall was entirely mirrored, reflecting the opulence back upon itself, magnifying the space into something almost limitless. On the opposite wall, a cascading waterfall trickled down a panel of textured glass, the sound a soothing counterpoint to the dripping faucets. "This is incredible," Suzanne whispered as she continued her inspection.

Holden said under his breath, gripping her hand hard. The panel slid open a few inches—stopping, jamming, then forcing itself wider with a mechanical groan. The room inside was nothing like the burned orphanage. The walls were metallic. Clean. Unscorched. Preserved. As if the fire hadn’t touched it at all. As if it had been waiting. Holden inhaled sharply. “That’s impossible.” Elena stepped closer—unable to stop herself. Drawn, compelled, terrified but mesmerized. The light inside flickered to life.

Crista commented as she continued walking around the space. She wasn’t wrong. The paneling on the walls was all dark tones, as was the floor and the desk. The ceiling was at least a cream to make it feel bigger and less enclosed. My desk and black leather wingback office chair sat in front of the windows at the center of the room.

However, on the third floor, at the very end of the hall, I entered a room that was beyond breathtaking. The floors were black marble, polished until they shone. The walls were high and covered in a dark red wallpaper in a Victorian pattern. A large, stone fireplace was nestled between two giant bookcases taking up the entire west wall. The east wall was sixty percent occupied by a large window nook and the rest by a large set of double doors. But the most noticeable feature was the huge canopy bed in the center of the back wall.

The walls were paneled in the same deep mahogany, broken only by floor-to-ceiling windows draped in heavy velvet the color of midnight. This wasn't a hospital. I turned my head slowly, wincing at the dull throb that pulsed through my skull. The room came into focus piece by piece. A massive fireplace dominated one wall, cold and dark now but clearly designed for roaring flames. Above it hung an oil painting—wolves running through snow, their eyes gleaming with predatory intelligence. The furniture was all sharp angles and dark leather. A reading chair positioned by the window. A desk that looked like it belonged to a man who made decisions that changed lives. Bookshelves lined with volumes b

*growling sound of a large beast* The frightening growl was heard even on top of the wall. The monster showed itself as it was trailing behind Cheng and Lianne. The shelves are filled with all kinds of books, new and old, all turned to the spine. The books are arranged in such precise colour coordination that they look a bit too perfect. The space is much bigger than I expected it to be and I'm almost consumed by its vastness. A large mahogany desk stands at the centre of it all, polished to a gleam with neatly stacked papers arranged on each side, and not a single paper document out of place.
