“You should rest a bit more. He’ll need you sharp when he wakes up.” Anna gave a soft, broken laugh. “I’ll be there.” A nurse returned not long after, looking like she had somewhere better to be. She must be used to so much tragedy that she’s long been desensitized. Or maybe long shifts and underpayment had killed her passion. Either way, she helped Anna sit up properly and rechecked her vitals. Anna sat there, feeling a little stronger now after a quick saline boost. She was ready to hold her husband’s hand again the moment they would let her through those doors.

Annie explained to me. I nodded and went to change into my white coat. She did the same. I knew now she wasn't sleeping at a friend's house. I wish she would stop telling me lies. She was starting to make me see her no better than the kinky nurse and her nasty cousin Octavia. "Send in the first patient," Dr. Annie opened the patient door and informed Blair. The elderly lady has entered the patient room. "Tell me what is wrong with you?" Dr. Annie inquired her.

The nurse disclosed. “Okay, don’t worry.” Anna said. She dug her hand into her bag and took out some cash. “This is for you.” The nurse collected the money, filling her lips with a smile. “Thank you, ma,” she said, bowing her head, and immediately as she raised her head, she sighted Franklin coming in. “Oh, the doctor is here already.” She proclaimed. Anna glanced backward, and seeing Franklin, she smiled discreetly. She turned to the nurse, permitting, “you can go.”

He said and Ann nodded then placed a call. “Hello this is Ann hamburger”. Ann said, despite how embarrassing her last name sounds, she tried her best to keep her voice low so Marcus wouldn't hear it clearly. “I see you now”. The nurse said. “Look at your front”. She added. Ann looked up and saw the young lady waving at her from the hallway. She hung up the call then wrapped her hand around Marcus’s arm before strolling to the lady waving at them in the hallway. “Good afternoon ma, I'm Janet”. She exchanged a handshake with both of them as she introduced herself.

“Now.” A nurse jumped in. Someone shoved gloves at her. She pulled them on without looking, eyes locked on his face—so young, lashes dark against skin that had lost its warmth. She slammed her hands into the chest again, muttering under her breath, “Where’s Doctor Mitchell? She’s supposed to be the attending…” A nurse shook her head, eyes wide. Anna’s stomach dropped. Technically, she wasn’t the attending—she shouldn’t be leading this. But the patient had been hers—she had been watching, monitoring. She couldn’t wait.

"Ann is working with someone against us, so we are monitoring her; we cannot hurt her till we get the names of all her colleagues, so we can get rid of them once." My eyes widened. "Wait, Ann!" He slammed his hand on my mouth. "Did I not tell you to be quiet?" "Sorry, I can't believe this. I don't like her, but I did think she would do something like this." Someone knocked on the door before he could talk. "Come in," he said, and the door opened, revealing the nurse. While the nurse worked, I was still trying to wrap my head around the whole Ann thing. It was so strong that it made me a little lightheaded. As Annabelle headed towards the nurses station across the lobby, I did a quick scan of the place with my eyes. To my relief, there was no trace of Susan at all. Same as the nurse from the previous night. The new nurse was a younger nurse and she looked even more friendlier.

“Meanwhile, one nurse is coming to give you an injection.” Shortly after the word came out of his mouth, a soft knock landed on the door. Before either of us could say a word, a nurse walked in, holding a tray with an injection and a small vial. “Good afternoon,” she said gently, pretending not to notice the heavy air between us. “Time for your medication, Miss Anne.” Crystal stepped aside, his shoulders stiff. The nurse moved toward me, her presence calm and professional. I stretched out my arm without a word. The cold sting of the injection barely registered; my thoughts were burning elsewhere.
