It was a small circle. With a line through it. "What does that mean?" I said. "It means something that tried to be there but didn't stay," he said. "The opposite of category eight." He looked at the mark. "It happened. It's in the record. But it didn't stay." He looked at us. "The spiral is for staying. The circle with the line is for the things that tried and couldn't." I looked at Adrian. He was looking at the map. At the spirals and the circle with the line.

I have had my own fair share of problems. I twirled the needle around my finger and missed, dropping into a puddle of oil. How it got there I didn't know. I quickly picked it up and cleaned it with my clothes. And something very interesting came to light that instant. On the sides of the of the needle was something engraved on it, like a calligraphy. I peeked even a closer and I was able to make out something. It had initials T. Y and O. W and some other things I couldn't quite make out. My heart skipped a bit. I know of the O. W but the T. Y? Who the hell is that and why was it engraved on this needle?

Zara and I decided, as Orli’s parents, we didn’t want to tell anyone who didn’t need to know, Including you.” I cross my arms. “Inspect it a little closer.” Mom and Dad tilt their heads and look closer at the mark. Dad’s steel-gray eyes flicker up to me. “What are the extra lines? They’re too straight to be a fluke.”

He handed it to Ophelia along with a pen, gesturing for her to take them. Ophelia hesitated but took the paper. She stared at the white paper and suddenly felt overwhelmed by its emptiness. She took a deep breath as she leaned forward to use the table before her for support. She placed the paper and awkwardly held the pen as she brainstormed her mind into recalling at least the basic shape of the insignia. ‘A cross, thorns, roses,’ she remembered, her hand getting the work on the paper.

He squinted, unsure. “It’s not finished yet, that’s why you don’t see it. We’ve only walked three points. But a fourth point would complete it.” I drew a straight line to complete the pattern. His jaw dropped as he recognized it. “A cross,” he said quietly. “We were meant to walk in the shape of a cross.” “Yes,” I said excitedly. “And if we follow the line, if we complete the cross symmetrically, it only leads to one place.” We both followed the line I drew.

"I would go get the photo album." Bet wondered why, but her dad was back in no time and opened up the album. She squinted in wonder at the photo being shown to her. It was a picture of a little girl wrapped in a swaddle, but that was not what surprised her the most; it was the weird tattoo-like symbol on her chest. The symbol consisted of eight diagonally intersecting lines with semi-circles at their edges and short strokes in between them. Bethany did not know what it meant, but she was certain that Adonis would know what the symbol meant.

Sarah said and he laughed. "Actually this is an abbreviation, there's a dot at the front of every later, It's L.I.O.N not lion." Aiden said. Sarah switched to the next photo and they stared at it curiously. "The word word LION is written vertically and in front of every letter are numbers." Sarah said. "N- 14, 15, 20, 15, 18, 1." Sarah copied the data from the image to a book. "What do you think Aiden?" She Asked.

The upper left corner contains a picture of the moon, while the top right has an image of the sun.
