It smelt like flowers so I figured it would go good with strawberry. “Here. This must be it.” Cash said loudly causing me to look in his direction. I watched as he pulled out several small rolodexes of cards from a file box sitting in front of the desk. “These will tell you which shelf and which row each book is on. The cards include a brief detail on the book as well. Do not stay up too late, as we have plans tomorrow.” He said, not even looking at me as he left them on the desk and went to leave.

When I finally ran out of desperate words, he steepled his fingers and studied me like a piece of meat on the cutting board. “I can give you the time off,” he said slowly. “Paid. Plus extra for the missed shifts. But nothing’s free anymore, little girl. You know that.” Relief and dread crashed into each other inside my chest. I nodded quickly. “Whatever you want. Just… please.” He opened his desk drawer and pulled out a small black box. Inside was a sleek, teardrop-shaped silicone plug, slightly curved, with a flared base and a wireless remote beside it. It wasn’t huge, but it looked heavy. Sinister.

The library was vast and quiet, the only sound accompanying their conversation was the soft rustle of pages and the occasional fluttering of wings from passing Ceruleanians. As Azrael confessed his forbidden affairs with the Devil, Offilies listened intently, his cerulean eyes widening with each revelation. His usually composed demeanor was replaced by a myriad of emotions—shock, concern, and an underlying fear for his beloved Prince's well-being.

“Quiet doesn’t mean unbothered. Just good at hiding it.” We fell into silence. The only sound was distant thunder rumbling above ground. I wondered how long we’d be down here. Minutes stretched. My mind wandered to how close he was. How alone we were. “Tell me something,” I said finally. “Why’d you become a librarian? You don’t seem like the type who likes being stuck behind a desk all day.” Mr. Kane exhaled softly. “Books don’t talk back. They don’t expect small talk. I like the order. And the stories. What about you? History major with a focus on obscure trade? That’s not common.”

Because he’d guessed the real answer without being told. Rory pointed at me. “Overwhelmed? She was overwhelmed by being a secret fan.” “I am not a secret fan,” I snapped automatically. Rory lifted the magazine cover with Jace’s face on it. “You have evidence.” Micah finally glanced up from the book, calm as always. “This is… a lot.” I pointed a finger at him. “Why are you reading my book.” Micah held it up slightly. “It’s good.” “That’s not the point,” I said.

I straightened awkwardly, suddenly aware of Lauren, who was several feet away looking like she had witnessed her own funeral. “I….” I cleared my throat. “I came for the books about omegas.” Osiris repeated with a frown. “Books?” The libertarian told me, There are some books about omega bonds in the east wing’s library.” “Oh!” Osiris nodded. Then, without another word, he lifted the tote bag hanging from his wrist. “Are you talking about these books, Kate?” I grabbed the bag and nearly gasped while checking the books inside it. ‘Fated Bonds and Omega Instincts.’

" The lawyer shook his head helplessly, left the items, and walked away. Vivian stood beside him with the expression of a victor. Julian remained frozen where he stood, feeling as if a chunk of his heart had been hollowed out. He had never thought Stella would really divorce him. Was it because of an album? Because he had never taken photos of her? His mind was a mess. "No. She must have misunderstood me!" Panicking, Julian found a computer and opened the USB drive. The first thing that appeared was footage of him photographing Vivian.
