I shook my head and moved closer to Alpha Devant and saw the confusion in his eyes. "What are you?" He asked through a series of shaky breath. "You're an omega --- you --- your wolf is supposed to be small." Without a second thought, I shoved Devant away by slamming my head against his stomach, making him fly a few good meters away from us. I ran back to Ahbaya and gently placed her on my back.

Sean asked and I was forced to agree. Sean shut and locked the door as I took a look around and scanned for a note. After the one we found on the back of the picture at the cabin, there hasn't been another and I wondered if the note guy had finally stopped since he saw that I was taking them seriously now. I shook my head and sat at my office as I started up the laptop and pulled out the first book. I worked for about thirty minutes while Sean pulled a book from my bookshelf and read as he relaxed on the couch. It was quiet and peaceful. Something that never lasts in a pack of werewolves, especially if you're an omega.

Megan put an arm around Owin's neck, bent him forward and ruffled his hair. "Hey! It's new. Don't mess it up," Owin protested, laughing. I laughed along until Megan released Owin and he rushed over to me. "Dove, I'm glad you're alright. I heard about the three rogue Omegas who attacked you." "Oscar's?" Megan came up beside him. Owin nodded. We turned from the ruined tree and moved towards Connie's B&B. Megan wanted to introduce a nice werewoman to Owin but the young werewolf merely grinned and said he'd be better off with a sparring partner. He begged me to convince Megan to drop the idea and we both got scolded by Megan.

I didn’t think it was appropriate to go to someone’s birthday party that was in my pack unless I actually knew them. I definitely did not know this one. Also, everyone would expect me to go to their birthday parties if I show up to hers. Wouldn’t they?…

Then I saw the notebook. “What is this?” I asked with a frown. “It's a diary,” Archer said. “It's your birthmother's journal. In it, she recounts experiences of being an Omega. I think it might help you to assimilate the changes you'll have, as well as understand things that I may not be able to explain openly because I'm an Alpha.” I raised my eyebrows, not understanding anything she was saying. “What's the difference between being an Alpha and an Omega? And why are they called that?” I asked without understanding and Archer burst out laughing.

We used to joke about it between ourselves, pretending not to care, but deep down it stung. Still, Aurora was strong. She might not look like the wolves others admired, sleek and fierce, but she carried a quiet power within her. And I knew no matter what lay ahead—if darkness came knocking, she and I would fight it together. But first I needed to see Osborne, I missed him completely. So I hurried toward the one place I knew I’d find him—his office. But before I could even reach the door, it swung open, and there he was. He stood up and walked to a metal table covered in tools and old books. He picked up a knife and turned it in the light. “I have been busy while you were playing house with the Ice Fangs.” I swallowed. “What do you want?” He set the knife down and picked up a thick black book instead. “Do you know what a real omega can do when she is fully awakened and controlled?” His eyes lit up. “Not just calm a pack, or make alphas stronger. A weapon, Raven. One omega bound to the right alpha can force an entire pack to kneel. Can break minds, start wars or end them. The rogue factions have been hunting for a true omega for years. And I found you first.”

The Omega is hunched over, her shoulders shaking with silent tears, her auburn hair flowing around her, clinging to her damp face. But when she speaks, her voice is clear, though hoarse from crying. “I’m from the Blackshade Pack.” My stomach clenches. The Blackshade Pack. A notorious rogue-sympathetic pack nestled at the edge of the Italian border. A pack known for trafficking. For secrets. For smuggling. But what is she doing so far out here? In America?
