Nothing was ever going to get me entangled with Noah again, but I still didn’t want Mom to know everything that went down.
Mom turned to Jace. “Jace, please take care of my baby.”
“Sure, Mrs. Susan,” he answered, and Mom flashed him a grateful smile.
We both headed toward the car, a black Toyota Camry, the kind most people hired for long-distance trips.
“Bye, Mom!” I waved until she disappeared from sight, and as soon as the car pulled onto the road, I let out a deep sigh. I hoped, really hoped that this semester would be different.
