Invisible Doctor
He closed his eyes, and the air escaped him like a muffled sob.
“Can I see her? Please,” he asked, and his voice came out so small, so shattered, it sounded like a lost child.
The doctor studied him for a moment, then nodded.
“One minute. Put on the gown and cap. Take it slow. You don’t look well, Dr. Medina.”
They helped him into the green gown, cap, and mask. I saw his hands shaking as they dressed him, as if he were preparing to enter a private battle he could no longer escape. Before going in, he turned toward me.
