His eyes are wide and he looks at a loss for words, like he can't believe what just happened. The crow caws again, and I spin around, waiting for another attack. Todd steps in front of me. The crow studies us with a black, beady eye. He hops to the edge of the table, opens his beak, and caws shrilly again. Todd lobs the book across the room. The book clips the crow, and it takes to the air, flying back into the bathroom and out an open window, disappearing into the night.

I stared at the ceiling, at the faint cracks in the wood, at the window where light peeked in. Then, movement outside caught my eye. Crows. Dozens of them. Flying from the east, black wings beating violently against the pale sky, their cries loud and harsh like warnings. A shiver ran down my spine. Something was coming. Something bad

But I willed myself to be calm. The crow landed on the ground a few metres away from me and I stared at him in desperation. How was I going to fight off nine dark ones, stronger than any human men? The crow blinked at me and I suddenly felt something beneath me. Something sharp. The dark ones got closer to me but every time I snarled, they backed away a little.

Chapter Twenty-Seven His shiny eyes just stared at me as if he were a reflection that penetrated my eyesight. He differs from the other blackbirds. I know what they called this a Raven. I secretly smiled because I knew for myself that he was a special blackbird. More clever, quick and unique to crawls and owls. I rubbed his feathers to make him even more meek and, as Willow says, we need to step on our blackbirds and let them know we are their master.

“Oh, great PRINCE! If you are there, let your presence be known!” As soon as he said it, a black crow came and started pecking his nose. “Hey! Ow!” He reached up and grabbed the crow. “Pretty sure that it’s him.” I told him while looking at the crow in his hands. Nate shrugged. “Nah! Still not convinced.” A second crow appeared and started pecking him again. “Ow! What the hell!? There’s two of them?!” He was busy swatting away the second crow that the first crow got free and started pecking him as well.

Sighing, Jean chimed in, "That woman is such a nuisance. She's like a leech; you can't shake her off!" After a brief silence, Jack piped up, "If she's dead, her stocks will belong to me." "Is that true?" Jean asked with glee. I trembled violently when I heard the suggestion. Was my husband thinking of killing me? I stood there, frozen. At that moment, a chill swept through my entire body, leaving me trembling uncontrollably. I had never imagined that the man I shared a bed with, the husband I trusted, would be planning to kill me.

Both of us stared in astounded shock as a large black bird slid slowly down the windshield, leaving a smear of crimson blood along the crack in the glass. “Is that… a crow?” I gasped, unable to believe my eyes. “No,” Ben said, his voice much more steady than mine. “It’s a raven.”
