In an instant, a large, leathered book appeared in her grasp and she held it out to me.

Many of us shared the same heart when we first entered those doors. And most of us have been vindicated, but we were steadfast and loyal to the cause." The book wasn't helping matters. I said the next thing that came to my mind. "Alizon. The gem of Alizon." The book kept quiet then flipped its pages open. It stopped at one and words began to appear on them. Once that was done, a mist of glow came out from the book.

No one knew how to speak into a miracle. Marianne cupped the baby’s cheeks with shaking hands, staring at her daughter like she was something holy. The kind of miracle you only witness once in a lifetime. She didn’t yet know how close she came to losing her. That truth came from the least expected voice. A small figure walked forward. Tiny, skinny Mira—hands clasped behind her back, her eyes still swollen from crying earlier. She stopped right beside Marianne and tugged her arm gently. “Auntie…” Mira whispered.
