The sight of him looking vaguely wounded brought me the tiniest flicker of grim satisfaction. “You left this at my place,” he said slowly, holding something in his hand. “Your bear alarm clock.” I stared at it. A cheap, scuffed electronic clock shaped like a cartoon bear, its plastic face scratched and faded from over a decade of use. And now, this relic was their opening move? Rage crawled up my throat, but I forced it down. “Thanks,” I said flatly. “That’s… thoughtful.” I snatched the ridiculous little clock and turned to leave.

They were the inhabitants of a new world. But as the howl faded, I looked up at the sky. The white doors of the Hunters were gone, but a new shape was forming in the high atmosphere. "They aren't just trying to delete the mountain," I realized, my violet eyes narrowing. "They're 'Sunset-ing' the entire universe. They’re closing the 'Project' forever."

"They match the shapes on the desk. We just need to align them." "No, no," he says, waving me off. He’s hunched over the desk, frantically typing codes into a keypad. "It’s a Fibonacci sequence. Look at the intervals of the clock chiming. It’s 1, 1, 2, 3... we just need the next digit." "Owen, the clock is just broken! Look at the carvings!" "I’ve got it, Sydney! Trust the process!" He slams a code into the keypad with a triumphant grin.

“We were just in Paris, actually, searching for you.” Da had no response to that. He eventually rose from the futon and went around the corner to the kitchen. A moment later, he returned with the clock we’d been searching for in his hands. “Oh my God,” I said, because it was hard to believe the thing existed. But when Da placed it on the coffee table in front of us, we all knew it was exactly the antique Olivier had been searching for. The hands of the clock ticked the time, which was two hours off from the current time.

Oh. She was talking about the northern cardinal. "Thursday." And where is the hour hand?

I threw myself at him, hugging him tight. "I'll repay you for this." I sincerely admitted. I pulled away and fiddled with the small clock in my hands, "how does this work?" "It's like any old clock. All you have got to do, is change the time to twelve." He explained. "What if I try a different time?" My curiosity got the best of me. "That doesn't work, it never works. I've tried it so many times." He shook his head. "Okay." I nodded. The time was set at the current time. I used the winding button and moved the hands backwards until all three pointers were directly on twelve.

With the black waziri on his tail, he and Leesa would not be staying still for even a few minutes. She strolled toward the spherical clock, in no hurry. Even from this distance, she could see the hands of the clock telling her it was still ten minutes before noon. The crowd grew thicker as she neared the circular marble and brass information counter. A few people were actually seeking information from the half dozen workers behind the counter, but most were simply studying the beautiful, unusual clock.
