The only thing I’m happy about was that I managed to wound her left eye. As my eyes scroll down the list, I notice something. One of the titles has the status: misplaced. Something strikes me, and although it might be useless, I check the shelf number and hurry over to where the books should have been. Climbing on the ladder, I poke around but see nothing. Disappointed, I’m about to climb back down when something catches my eye. There’s something stuck in the back.

She sat beside Emily, lit up the candles, and whispered to her, “Make a wish, sweetheart.” Emily weakly looked at the candle. Her birthday was no longer feeling special. She closed her eyes, inhaled deeply, and made her wish. "I wish my father will love me again. I wish he could see the hurt in my eyes when he ignores me and feel the emptiness in my heart when he's not there. I wish he could understand how much his presence means to me and how his absence affects me. I wish my dad could love me unconditionally, value me, and be proud of having me as his daughter." She finished and blew out the candles, hoping that her wishes would be granted.

Leaning towards the water, I dip my fingers in and then rub them against the bottom half of the letter, the empty portion. Shaking off the water droplets from my hand, I hold up the letter to the light and stare at it. For a moment, nothing happens. And then- Words begin to appear in white ink. Against the light, they’re easier to see, although a still a strain. ‘They’re coming again. They know. I’ve made arrangements. You’ll be safe, Taylor. I promise. They won’t get to you. Let them follow me. It’s going to be okay. Just wait. Expect the unexpected. Nothing is what it seems.’
