Through the gate is what appears to be a throne room. A large wise looking old merman sits on top of the throne. His skin is a deep green and his beard is like squid tentacles and kelp poking in and out of each other. I can see the octopus on his face. He carries a large black trident. He swims down to greet us.

"No! No... This cannot be happening." She wiped her eyes to see clearer as she slowly moved, he sprang up yet again, and this time the picture became even clearer, she now saw him for what he truly was, a merman. That was when she realized the mess she made with herself. At that moment she turns and ran away screaming like a dying lamb

It had half a torso like mine but the rest of its body was a fish. A merman I gaped in shock as its face settled before mine, the water choked me until my lungs began to collapse. The merman looked sad and when he spoke its voice sounded like a thousand choristers singing the hymn "Human..."

"Hey, you idiot! What the hell did you do?" Oh no. I lift my chin at the voices of the policemen, and it's as though someone poured gasoline onto the spark of fear in my belly. Without needing confirmation, I can tell the merman escaped. An unnatural glow colors the entire water lime green, and I'm far away from feeling inner peace when a being unlike anything I've ever seen swims right below my boat. The creature I'm staring at isn't like Scylla—this one wears an expression way too human and intelligent, which stops my heart. Am I observing a man or a wicked monster?

''I am still your leader, drop your weapon '' I ordered but they gnashed as their spear swayed towards me and I was quick to dodge it. I kicked, punched, dodged, and snatched two spears that pierced through their skin.

From there the mermaids eagerly retrieved their prey and carted him to the sandbar to feed on his fear. "By the time this is over, those pirates are going to beg to be arrested," Devrim realized. He had been under the merfolk's spell. It was not fun. The Emperor finished his task and cleared out the rest of the pirates. His small but tenacious crew had taken out hundreds of pirates already without any loss on their part. That feat in itself seemed impossible. 'Well, we do have some magical help.
