Her silver hair moved gently despite the still air. This time… She looked weaker. Almost transparent. ⸻ “You came back.” Seraphina whispered. ⸻ “I don’t have much time.” The old woman replied.

Vance’s grip tightened on his blade. “Lena…” The black symbol pulsed once. Then the voice from the fog returned, closer this time, calm and smooth. “You’re not the first Echo to stand here with a new claim on her skin. But you might be the last one who survives it.” Lena’s heart slammed against her ribs. The hunger in her mouth sharpened so fast her teeth ached. And through the bond, she felt Vance’s fear spike hard enough to taste. Whatever the ruins had just woken up knew exactly what the bite meant.

Then, the screen surged back to life, but it wasn't showing the bikes. It was a grainy, high-angle shot of the Elders’ private sanctum. The audio hissed through the stadium speakers, amplified to a deafening volume. *"The Blackwood pack is a relic,"* the voice of Elder Vance boomed, clear and cold. *"They will lose this night. It has been engineered."* A collective gasp rippled through the crowd, a physical wave of sound. *"And what of the girl?"* a second voice asked—Elder Halloway. *"Maddison?"*

POV: Jared The crimson glow of Xaden's taillights vanished beyond the bend, swallowed whole by the darkness. But his presence lingered thick and suffocating, like the acrid smell of smoke after a fire. My fists curled so tightly my knuckles cracked, but the tremor in my hands betrayed me. I couldn't let Zina see it. Not now. Not after this.

Lila's P.O.V The darkness in the crypt was absolute, a suffocating blanket that pressed against my skin like the weight of all the Blackwood secrets buried here. My flashlight beam sliced through it, casting erratic shadows on the stone walls etched with names of ancestors long gone—generations who had fought their own battles against curses and betrayals. Figuring that Ash was her elder brother, it was only normal for her to be more mature than other kids her age. They settled into the movie and except for Chelsea who had watched the movie a gazillion times, Olive and Rosie were shocked by the plot twists that kept popping up. The movie ended about an hour later and they just kept binging on more and more Marvel movies. They were watching Thor:The Dark World, well Chelsea was watching it. Rosie and Olive were conked out on the sofa with the younger's head on the elder's lap and Olive's head on the backrest. Chelsea kept watching until the post-credits came up.

Both of our hearts silently break. As it nears dawn, Eve urges me onto her back once more and she takes off toward an unknown destination. We go until she cannot anymore. Shifting into human form, my mother collapses in exhaustion. There is no food or shelter in sight. Just then, I hear a noise rustling in the brush.
