Carmen left the table and got into her room to get her stuff to perform the ritual. She shifted some of the furniture to the other room to make space for the marking. Elijah watched her in fascination as Carmen drew some circles and random symbols on the wooden floor. She sprinkled some herbs on random places in the circle she made. She took out a sharp knife and placed it in the centre. “We are ready! Bring your daughter so both of you can escape.” Carmen informed Elijah and he went inside the room to take his daughter in his arms carefully and came back to the room.

In the middle of us trying to pull ourselves together, the window rolled down slowly, revealing the unamused face of Sylvia’s assistant, Carmen. She looked woefully severe as always, her mousy brown hair twisted and pulled back into a tight bun. I winced just looking at the hairdo, but she was probably used to the constant headache. Olive and I must’ve been quiet for too long because Carmen lifted one of her plucked eyebrows and scanned her eyes over us from head to toe. Her nose twitched, and I knew she scented the alcohol on us. “How wonderful.” She drawled, pushing her glasses up her nose. Her thin lips twisted into a frown. “What on earth are those rags you’re wearing?”

Carmen played with her hair as she circled around him. “She is mine,” he hissed. “Cronous stole her.” “And he’ll keep her forever unless you change your strategy, Clyde. Brute force clearly isn't working for you,” Carmen said, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. She stepped closer, her eyes gleaming with malice.

I grit out. SLAP! “Carmen, aren’t you going too far? I thought we were just scaring her,” I hear from my left. I glance over and see Carina standing there. How’d she get tangled up in this? I know she’s after Tes, but I never pictured her doing this. “Are you dense? You think she’ll leave him if we just scare her? She has to die.” Carmen glares at me, her eyes brimming with hate. “She could just leave town.”

“I missed you so much, Cel. Please come back to me. I’ve been waiting for your return for two years.” Celine immediately flung Carmen’s hand away. She chided with a dark expression, “Open your eyes wide. I’m a young lady of the Fishers. My name is Celine Fisher. “If you’re looking for your daughter, it’s Caroline.” Celine grabbed Carmen’s arm, pulled her to the roadside, and gave her a push. Carmen fell to the ground.

At nine o'clock, Carmen drove into the parking lot of Ocean Sky Resort. Then she gazed into the distance, with a faraway expression on her face before squeezing her eyes shut while repressing her tears. “Will he be here?” Carmen whispered as she rested her head on the steering wheel. A while later, Carmen heard a tap on her windshield. But she felt hesitant to lift her head. However, after the third knock, she slowly sat up and stared at her car window.

I walked to the driver and smiled. “Caren Inc please” I slipped into the car and he drove off. Caren Inc was a large office building, it wasn’t so popular but I already felt a homy feeling around it. I stepped out of the car and walked into the building. I headed straight for the receptionist, a tall blonde woman with huge spectacles. Her tag said Mrs. Helen Mayer. “hey, I’m Camila Santiago and I applied for a job here” she glanced through some files and smiles.

That night, Evelyn sat in the living room of their apartment, Jayden asleep against her chest, his small fingers curled into her shirt. Carmen paced the kitchen, already planning dinner like life hadn’t been paused for months. “They’re done,” Carmen said, shaking her head. “Vanessa. Felicia. Halver. Finished. I knew that woman was off from day one.” Evelyn smiled faintly. “You always did.” “And I’ll always trust my instincts,” Carmen added smugly. “Especially about snakes.” Reed laughed from the doorway. “Remind me never to get on your bad side.”
