With a graceful motion, she lifted Pockets from her lap, setting him beside me. She stretched, her movements fluid, before strolling over to the shelf. A moment later, she returned, triumphantly holding a well-worn deck of cards, its edges softened by years of play. She raised an eyebrow, a playful challenge gleaming in her expression. “Poker, blackjack, or are we going old school with Go Fish?”
I flashed a grin, my heart lightened by the shift in focus. “Dealer’s choice.”
