Liam taught us all how to fight them. When I woke up, it was late. I’m surprised Betty didn’t knock on the door. I showered fast with the cold water and got dressed. I had no idea where they were. As I turned the corner, a truck was parked, and men were taking barrels out of a cabin. I sneaked inside and hid. They were dumping vials in the drinking water. One of them muttered about making sure our pack never recovered, that the poison would wipe out our kind. My blood ran cold as I realized they weren’t just trying to hurt us—they wanted to destroy us completely.

A puck. I sit up slowly. Turn it over in my hands. It's regulation size and weight, no different from the hundreds of pucks I've handled in my life, except for the fact that it is clearly old worn at the edges in a way that speaks to years of handling, the rubber surface smooth in places from contact, the NAHL stamp on the face so faded it's barely legible anymore. Not mine.

With a steady hand, I reached inside, carefully unrolling each scroll and scrutinizing its contents. The scrolls revealed a treasure trove of forgotten knowledge, each one filled with intricate symbols and ancient texts. I poured over them, searching for the elusive crimson seal. Time seemed to slip away as I delved deeper into the world contained within those scrolls. The Pack's fate depended on my ability to decipher their secrets and find the one scroll that held the answers we sought.

I could afford no more on choosing what to buy, though any other time I would have spent hours carefully selecting each piece. I happen upon an auction in the market's center, the sound of hooves upon the cobblestone has me squirming my way through the crowd. One horse sticks out to me, a beautiful white stallion with black socks that match his wild eyes. They call him 'Ghost', when they bring him up for bidding and I waste no time in starting it off. I win him and quickly load his saddlebag with my new clothing, before taking him to purchase food for our journey.

We exited the cabin and took the elevators. "When we will reach the room, you have to pack your stuff, champ," Alpha said to dee, and I rolled my eyes... {How can a five-year-old pack his stuff on his own?} "His suitcase is already packed, alpha," I told him, and he nodded without looking at me... {is he ignoring me?}

A few moments later, Zev enters with the pack safe and places it at the back of the office. “Zante wants you to look after the cash for the pack. We aren’t sure how much is in there. The code is 1569. We are heading into the city to check on some construction that’s taking place. We will be back this evening”. He must have sensed my arousal and I watch him leave hurriedly and I move towards the safe as soon as the door closes. I press the number in and it opens. The smell and sight of piles of cash in there sends me wild. I grab a handful and run it over my skin.

Right now Desi was trying to remember her life before she arrived her in this place with this pack. The disturbance that was outside was getting closer and it was more than one being. Desi could feel it was more than maybe ten. She was trying to focus on one thing when everything seemed to overwhelm her and all of her senses. She stood up and looked out the window. She saw the figures moving toward her house. They were working as their own pack. Desi was wondering if it was something like a practice for the young ones in the pack. She eyed the package with suspicion as she approached. The package was plain and unadorned, wrapped in brown paper and sealed with plain tape. Lena’s pulse quickened as she carefully peeled back the wrapping. Inside, she found a small, unassuming USB drive and a note written in a neat, almost clinical handwriting. The note read: "The truth is closer than you think."

“Give it some time. They haven’t had enough time to see the change. We’ll explain on Sunday when we answer the summons.” Was she supposed to not know that they were talking about the pack? Aislen wondered. Had there been a group agreement that they wouldn’t talk about it directly, but they would talk around it as if everyone knew the key words that were missing from the conversation? A Triquetra secret code, she thought sourly. Or were they acknowledging that she did know, and would know the secret code? But, if that were so, why use one at all?

The early wake up was a deliberate ploy to prove that the pack controlled them, that the pack decided just how long they slept for, what and when they ate, and what they wore, Aislen thought sourly as they began the cycle of showering and dressing for the day.
