Adrian said, “Dude, it was unbelievable.” “Thanks,” he answered.” You must be the ones who roughed up Natalie. My name is Chris Stratus. But you can call me Steam Dragon.” He seemed pleasant enough, but I couldn’t read his mind to make sure. It was probably because Chancellor Thorne was close to the training forum. “Nice name,” I said. “I’m Maddie. These are my friends, Adrian, and Eric.” “Good to meet you,” Chris said. “Most of the new people have a tough time getting through the first wave of training.” “Any pointers?” Eric inquired.

“We have Healers who can touch a wounded individual and correct the injury. We have Sirens who can use their beguiling skills to influence the action of others. We have Manipulators and Emotional Feelers as well. There are others.” “Do you have a special talent?” Aaron asked. Ward smiled. “Yes,” he said, and left it at that. For some reason, Aaron did not feel the need to ask more. “So, we will continue to go through this… Transformation process?” “Yes.” “And then what?” Kian asked.

“Then fight for them. Fight like your Alpha’s watching. Because he is. Because right now, he needs you. Everyone here needs you.” A boy, maybe sixteen, stepped forward, holding a silver dagger with shaking hands. “Luna, we’ll stand with you.” I reached for his shoulder and gave it a squeeze. “Then let them come.” The mist curled along the ceiling now. It pulsed with dark energy. And even though I was terrified, I didn’t step back. I stood tall. Luna. Mother. Mate. Warrior. I would not fall today. Not when the war had reached our doorstep. And not when we still had something worth saving. “Because right now, we are more than just ready for whatever it is to come…”

So, yeah, he’s also a badass, it just looks different than my form of badassery. Our youngest brother Dax is currently the pack’s Lead Warrior, which means he works closely with Gamma Bree in running trainings and sparring sessions, and with me when it comes to battle strategy. Thanks to my parents’ leadership, leadership which I at least hope I’m carrying on, there’s been little reason for the latter, but I like knowing that I have one of my brothers, someone whom I trust implicitly, in that role. And, my parents, while retired, still live on pack lands while they enjoy their retirement. So, I’m really very lucky. But it’s still not the same as what I see Cayden has with Zella or Bree has w

I ask. “Yes ma’am. You are my Padawan after all,” he says, grinning. “I will have to go back to the Academy for a couple of days before we go, though. Tracker is still hunting for Patrick, Peter, and Justine. I want to do a bit more digging on that before we leave. But we also have Alpha Glenn, Alpha Grady, and Gamma Nathan’s trials coming up, so we have a lot going on.” “Is it always this busy?”

His voice was low, without much weight to it, but it did the job. “The gap in leadership is nothing to concern yourself about,” Kaden said. “Harold and Hilda Patterson, step forward.” Harry stumbled forward, not expecting his name to be called. Hilda held him by his shoulder to keep him from faceplanting. “They will be your Betas in training, working under Alpha Cain Vale.” Harry turned to me with wide eyes. I pointedly avoided eye contact, staring at the moving clouds in the morning sky above us. “William and Quincy Reegan,” Kaden called.

Jess said. “Cut it out, guys. We’re not here to argue about stray wolves and rogues. We’re here for our friend,” James intervened. “Actually, I’m enjoying this,” I said with a small smile. “So, how was training today?” “It was kind of disorganized. Alpha Adrian wasn’t present, and Rosa was paired with another trainee,” Jess replied. A smile crept onto my face as soon as I heard that Rosa had been paired with someone else. This was the best news I had received all day apart from the discharge update the nurse had given me earlier that morning.

"Go on, pledge!" "I, Adam Dart, Alpha of Dart Legion and only born son of my father, kneel before you. With the Moon Goddess as a witness, I pledge my pack to you," Adam stated as he looked out the window toward the moon. "The responsibility to ensure they are safe is no longer mine to bear. The pack will be connected to you for as long as you are Alpha."
